NISD conducts training of tele-counsellors from the National Drug De-Addiction Helpline in Delhi on Jan 6-7, 2020.


The National Institute of Social Defence organized a two-day training programme of tele-counsellors from the National Toll-Free Drug De-Addiction Helpline – 1800-11-0031 – under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. Dr. Veerendra Mishra, Director, NISD, inaugurated the programme on January 6, which was followed by the introduction of the Resource Person Pradeep Shetty, Project Supervisor, National Tobacco Quitline Services, NIMHANS (The National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro-Sciences). Also present were M. Sunil Kumar, Deputy Director, NISD, and Dr. Sijo George, Project Manager, NAPDDR (National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction). A total of 16 tele-counsellors took part in the training over two days. There were several sessions at the training programme, including Special Populations and Cultural Awareness, Drug Use and Drug Dependence, Intervention Planning, among others, where the participants got a thorough understanding of helpline services and the role of a helpline counsellor. The training concluded with a Q & A session wherein the participants actively asked questions to the resource person and dispelled their doubts.
